Castling Rules

Only the king and one of the rooks can participate in castling. The rook involved must be on the same rank as the king.

When can castling be done?

  1. King and Rook should be in the starting position for castling.
  2. For castling, there will be no pieces between the king and the rook.

When can’t castle?

  1.  When the King is moved.
  2. The side whose rook is to be moved cannot be castled.
  3. Castling cannot be done on the King when in the check phase.
  4. After castling, if it is seen that the rook or king participating in that castling has fallen under the attack of the opponent’s piece, then castling will not take place on that side.
  5. There will be no castling if there is a piece between the king and the rook.
